Our story
How it all began
How we met
We first met through mutual friends one summer evening. Neither of us was looking for anything in particular, but we ended up talking for most of the night and discovered we had far more in common than either of us expected.
A few weeks later, what was supposed to be a quick coffee turned into an entire afternoon together. From there came countless walks, weekends away, questionable attempts at cooking for each other and a growing list of places we wanted to explore.
Somewhere along the way, without either of us really noticing when it happened, we stopped making plans separately and started making them together. And we haven't really stopped since.
The proposal
James had planned a weekend away in the Lake District, somewhere we'd returned to many times over the years. Emily thought it was simply an excuse to escape for a couple of days, and somehow James managed to keep his real plans completely secret.
After a long walk through the fells, we stopped at a quiet spot overlooking the lake. With nobody else around and the view stretching out in front of us, James got down on one knee and asked Emily to marry him.
There were tears, a lot of laughter and, thankfully, a very definite yes. We celebrated that evening with dinner, a bottle of champagne and several phone calls to family and friends we'd been desperate to make all afternoon.
Our journey
Since that weekend, life has been a wonderful mixture of wedding plans, everyday adventures and plenty of conversations about what we want our future together to look like.
We've travelled, made a home together and collected more happy memories than we could ever fit onto this page. Through all of it, we've learnt that it's often the ordinary moments — Sunday mornings, long walks, dinner with friends and laughing about something nobody else would find funny — that mean the most.
Now we're looking forward to the next chapter, beginning with a day surrounded by the people who have been part of our story so far. We can't wait to welcome you to Willowmere House and celebrate together.
Meet the people
Wedding party
Sophie Carter
Maid of Honour
Emily's best friend since university and the person most likely to know what she's thinking before she says it. Sophie has been there for almost every important moment — and has taken her Maid of Honour duties very seriously.
Daniel Foster
Best Man
James's oldest friend, occasional partner in bad ideas and the obvious choice for Best Man. They've known each other since school, although Daniel insists there are several stories from those years that won't be making it into the speech.
Lucy Bennett
Bridesmaid
Emily's younger sister and lifelong partner in crime. Lucy has been involved in everything from dress shopping to hen-party planning and can usually be relied upon to keep everyone smiling.
Tom Harris
Groomsman / Usher
James met Tom at university and they've remained close ever since. He's travelled halfway around the world with James, shared more than a few adventures and was one of the first people to hear about Emily.
Grace Foster
Bridesmaid
A close friend of both Emily and James, Grace quickly became part of the family. She's the calm one in the group and has an uncanny ability to solve a problem before anybody else has realised there is one.
Oliver Carter
Groomsman / Usher
One of James's closest friends and Sophie's husband. Oliver has been part of countless weekends away, Sunday lunches and celebrations over the years — so the wedding party wouldn't feel complete without him.

Good to know
Frequently asked questions
What is the dress code?
We'd love everyone to dress smartly for the occasion. Think wedding guest attire, but most importantly wear something you feel comfortable celebrating in.
Can I bring a plus one?
Your invitation will show exactly who is included in your party. If a plus one has been included, you'll be able to add their details when you RSVP.
Are children invited?
We love your little ones, but due to limited numbers we're only able to accommodate children who are named on the invitation.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive at Willowmere House from 1:15pm. The ceremony begins at 2:00pm, and we'd be grateful if everyone could be seated by 1:45pm.
Is there parking at the venue?
Yes. Complimentary parking is available within the grounds of Willowmere House. Please follow the wedding signs when you arrive.
Can we take photographs during the ceremony?
We'd love you to be fully present with us during the ceremony, so we're asking guests to keep phones and cameras tucked away until afterwards. There'll be plenty of time for photographs throughout the rest of the day.
Do I need to book a taxi home?
Yes, we'd strongly recommend arranging your return journey in advance. Taxis can be limited later in the evening, particularly at weekends.
